Our Story

“The destiny that matters most in anyone’s life is the one concerning love.” – Nicholas Sparks

First time we met

March 10, 2012

Call it destiny, call it fate, call it whatever you want, but Monica and Jon have a unique love story that is enough to make anyone wonder: “Are some things meant to be?” Monica first met Jon on a night out with her college roommate, Sinead Blomquist. Heading to a birthday party at “Proof” in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, Sinead thought it was a good idea to ask her uncle to join. Monica, being from a small family, pictured an “uncle” as an older, weird man. Needless to say, she was pleasantly surprised to be introduced to Jon. Jon remembers Monica hitting on him. Monica says that’s false. You be the judge of who was right or wrong.

Our first date

November 15, 2012

A year later, after ending a relationship, Monica again was spending time with Sinead when Sinead asked if she was open to start dating again. Monica agreed and Sinead said, “Great. My uncle always asks about you. He thinks you’re cute.” Later that day Monica did what all 21-year olds do, and friend requested Jon on Facebook. Jon immediately messaged and said, “So when are you going to let me take you out?” The rest is history.

A life in love

November 1, 2017

After Jon’s countless cross continent moves, many ups and downs (and there were many), Monica decided to move to Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Jon took two weeks before asking if he could come visit. After many visits, they realized they didn't want to be apart from each other anymore. A year later, he was packing up his apartment and making the move, too.

He asked... She said Yes!

June 5, 2018

On June 5, 2018, during a trip to their favorite summer vacation spot in the world (Door County, Wisconsin), Jon surprised Monica with twinkle lights and candles in the forest, where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. That story can be a novel in itself (and its Monica’s favorite to tell so call her if you feel inclined to know every detail). Here’s a video that summarizes it well, below...

Happily Ever After...

They now live happily ever after in the beautiful town by the sea, where Jon is growing his internet marketing business and Monica continues to work her corporate public relations job and on her hopelessly romantic novel.

It’s here that their story really started and it’s here that they hope their story will continue, forever. It’s here where they want their closest family and friends to come, watch them exchange their vows overlooking the Bogue sound waters, drink Polish vodka, dance under twinkle lights, and celebrate in life and love and fate and everything that makes life worthwhile.
